Proposal description

The following is a proposal for Dash Growth, a new initiative for growth marketing and business development for Dash. This is the follow-up to the successful crowdfund pre-proposal, which can be found here.

Challenge

Historically, the vast majority of Dash’s business development and marketing has been done by Dash Core Group, especially in periods of lean treasury. Right now, DCG is doing neither. Due to staffing cuts, there is no one doing business development or marketing for Dash at all.

To be clear: there is no one in charge of posting regularly from the official Twitter account or on other platforms. There is no one responsible for answering business development inquiries or partners like exchanges and wallets. This gives Dash the appearance of a completely dead coin, and we can expect a series of delistings and service disruptions if this continues. The situation is critical.

Opportunity

Thankfully, we have all the tools to easily not only reboot previous maintenance of essential functions, but also grow rapidly and expand our user base and visibility in 2024 onwards. Dash is an old and well-tested cryptocurrency project with major integrations in services the world over, has an established brand, and, most importantly, is the most practically useful and user-friendly digital cash in the world right now. We essentially have a great product with few users and little visibility, primed for a relaunch.

The original promise of cryptocurrency, that of decentralized digital cash, has largely been unfulfilled 15 years into the technology’s existence. The rest of the space has chased store-of-value, decentralized applications, and finance, but no one has successfully taken digital cash to market. I believe that Dash is the best digital cash in the world, as evidenced by my personal choice to overwhelmingly use it as my money for the past 7 years and counting. We have an enormous opportunity for growth here.

Especially with the start of the next bull market, and potentially the Evolution launch, the timing is good to make Dash come alive again and ride a wave, giving momentum and additional funds to make a lasting impact in adoption.

Plan

We will start a new DFO, Dash Growth, to handle business development and marketing for Dash. This will consist of two full-time employees, myself (Joël Valenzuela/TheDesertLynx) and Marina Siradegyan (former Dash Core Group communications officer). We will take over business development duties from where DCG left off, including engaging with partners (wallets, exchanges, etc.), rekindling lost relationships, and forming new ones. We will focus on growing Dash in strategic services as much as possible to increase its network effects in service of the digital cash use case, and heavily push for support of Dash’s special features (InstantSend, ChainLocks, and PrivateSend).

Additionally, we will leverage current Dash assets (website, Twitter and other social media accounts, etc.) to create a content-based marketing approach, building reach and visibility for Dash with a low-cost approach, leveraging partners wherever possible for mutual collaboration and promotion. We will supplement this low-cost growth strategy with several ad campaigns (as many as budget allows for) targeted for maximum reach and conversions per dollar. Please see our Dash Growth Marketing Plan outline.

(NOTE! The above plan is largely for Dash the cryptocurrency as it stands today, with currently-available or soon-to-be-released end-user products. When Evolution launches fully on mainnet in a stable manner with adequate documentation and developer tooling, we will explore a second growth marketing plan to run in parallel with this one which focuses more on decentralized applications and developers.)

Hybrid model

In order to improve sustainability, align incentives, and increase our accountability, we are pursuing a hybrid model where we receive part of our funding through voluntary community donations. By doing this we not only demonstrate that Dash can fund essential functions outside of the treasury’s constraints and masternode votes, but will also directly make ourselves accountable to individuals who donate their hard-earned money to make Dash succeed.

In summary, we have already fundraised the first month of our expenses through voluntary donations. These initial donors will receive weekly updates and other exclusive perks, in addition to the monthly public updates provided to the greater Dash network. Full pre-proposal crowdfund details can be found here, and full reasoning for this incentive model can be found in the Dash Structure document.

Ask

We are asking for 350 Dash per month. This should cover basic expenses and salaries for two full-time employees. In case of price appreciation, extra revenue will go towards ad campaigns and other paid growth. In case of larger campaigns outside of the scope of our budget, we will pursue a hybrid funding model for those as well, crowdfunding an initial amount while seeking a matching grant from the treasury.

We have spent the past decade building the best digital cash in the world. In order to continue to do so, however, we need serious user and partnership growth. I believe that we can achieve this over the next few years through effective growth marketing and partnerships, and we are prepared to give everything we have to achieve this goal.

Dash Growth Update

This year, Dash Growth hit the ground running in implementing our growth strategy, starting with establishing the basic necessary tools, practices, and pipelines which were previously not correctly set up. First, to implement our heavily content-based marketing strategy, we brought content channels up to speed (X/Twitter, the Dash blog, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube) and implemented a content calendar to ensure proper coverage of vetted posts. We have also consistently created and disseminated content across these channels, pursuing an X-first approach. In the future we will be able to focus on purpose-building content for specific channels first. On X alone we have increased our reach by over 4x over the monthly averages of last year.

For business development, we first and foremost established an internal list of partners and partner interactions. This did not previously exist, and the best source of partners was the main Dash public-facing website. This meant we now have to manually restart most business relationships from zero, cold-email partners which have long supported Dash, reach out via X etc., and in some cases even ask partners if this was our first time communicating or if they had relationships with previous business development officers at Dash. This is now solved, and we have a list of partners and interactions which we will continue to grow and leverage.

A second major issue we have had to address was the lack of a reliable block explorer API to recommend to partners. Previously, if a partner sought to recognize InstantSend payments, they would have to run their own Dash node under a custom setup. We had no reliable plug-and-play block explorer API to recommend. Thankfully, that's now fixed. We have partnered with Blockchair to fix their InstantSend recognition, and now wallets and services can simply use their service to recognize InstantSend. This is a major first step towards ensuring that all Dash-accepting services have the instant transaction experience we enjoy.

Our overall combined business development and marketing strategy is as follows:

1) Contact all existing partners and Dash-supporting services, companies, apps, etc. and form relationships.
2) Establish co-promotion relationships where we will create and share content promoting their business and they will reciprocate, share Spaces on X, etc.
3) Ensure all partners support Dash’s special features (InstantSend at a minimum), are current with branding and logos, have correct marketing material on Dash, etc.
4) Build affiliate relationships wherever possible, where Dash-supporting services will at a minimum track, and possibly even compensate us, for every new customer we send their way. This is key to our growth strategy as it allows us to concretely measure how many new users we’re acquiring, which strategies are working, which are not, etc.

We have spent the past roughly 6 weeks building our foundations and contacting partners. Several new partnerships and feature integrations are in the works and will be announced in the coming weeks and months. For right now, however, we can confirm that merchant point-of-sale and ecommerce solution ivendPay now supports InstantSend transactions. Additionally, we have a referral relationship with Spritz Finance, a service which lets users (mostly in the US at the moment) pay all their bills with Dash, use a reloadable virtual card for everyday expenses, and more. When recommending Spritz to new potential Dash users, please use the following link:
https://spritz.finance/dash

Finally, we have identified a source of major blockages for Dash with some of the largest potential partners in the payments space. We will keep the community updated as much as we’re able to say publicly, but resolving this issue, if possible, may be capital-intensive (though worth every penny). We are mentioning this early so that the community can begin to prepare expectations in advance.

How's that self-indulgent "digital cash" thing working out?

Dash price on 2023-12-10 : 35.23 USD, rank #138
Dash price on 2024-02-05 : 27.11 USD, rank #185

I'll see you at 14 USD

Delicate period for Dash and this may be the right time to hear about it again considering all the silent hard work of these years. Dash Italia, in its small way, supports this project and we bounce any news on our Social Networks. For me it's YES.

After receiving 350 Dash from donations and 350 Dash from the budget, a total of 700 dash (or 24000 USD) does this proposal has some metrics to provide?

Note also that the_desert_lynx, since 2021-08-28 and until now, received 330124 USD for his marketing campaings.

https://mnowatch.org/proposalowners/?po=the_desert_lynx

Where are the metrics and the tangible results of this marketing campaign?
In case there are no metrics (I hope there are) , how do you think we should punish the people who supported the failure? Reduce their voting rights maybe?

Money to buy a house had to come from somewhere, if not dash then KYC from zcash grants.

spirit, combine, MallBrazElec, rabbit, the main supporters of this proposal.
https://mnowatch.org/the_results_dashd_2024-01-17-22-52-20.uniqueHashVotes.140.html?3=DASH-GROWTH-Q1-2024

In case this proposal is proved a scam ( I really hope not, I really hope that the_desert_lynx will finnaly bring tangible result) will the supporters be held accountable?

Lets face it, it is not the_desert_lynx fault. It is its supporters (spirit, combine, MallBrazElec, rabbit etc) that should be punished, and as long as this culture of non punishment remains in dash, dash will sink more into the dark pit of coinmarketcap.

ACCOUNTABILITY NOW!

I am in support of this especially now as we enter the bull market, it's important to keep Dash in the conversation and seize opportunities as they arise.

The same question applies to you too. Ιs your YES to this proposal unconditional?

How long are you going to wait for reliable metrics to be provided? What is the grace period you give to the_desert_lynx for him to bring us tangible results?
Reply

He brought tangible results with the Brave ads, unfortunbately, we lost Dash Direct, and social media stats are slippery, without paid to promote, reach is very small, TDL has monetized stuff so there will be some self-sustaining funding going on, what is your alternative?
Reply
1 point,11 months ago
Is this YES unconditional?

Will you support this proposal, even if they do not manage to bring us reliable metrics?

And how long are you willing to wait for these reliable metrics to arrive?
Reply

Imo, the dash project has multiple systemic problems, as demonstrated by this proposal's existence.

Ask yourselves, why or how is it possible that the same faces appear here, asking for money and telling you "this time it's different"? - no other takers for marketing? And how well distributed is this fountain for grants, given it's the same old people asking and receiving money?

Of the few people voting, apparently they are not tired of the same old relentless message that, a) "dash is digital cash", and b) "you too should live unbanked".

First of all, dash is NOT digital cash. It's had 10 whole years to prove this point and we're still waiting. To be digital cash, you'd be integrating with every DEX and market out there, and it's not. And CoinJoin is a shitty user experience to achieve fungibility.

Secondly, I'm sure the majority of people don't give a shit about being unbanked. Yes, they definitely should exit fiat and never return, but the path of least resistance is to make a quick buck.

As I've said on the dash forum, dash really needs to drop the "digital cash" message... and the lame "your money, your way" slogan. It's taken some time but I have finally accepted that dash is web3 and this has been fully reflected in my personal portfolio management.

Dash is a product offering a fault tolerant database / data contract with very specific characteristics. For the above stated reasons, dash is never going to be "digital cash", dash (credits) is simply the token of this system. I understand some of you may /want/ it to be digital cash, but this is nowhere close to reality.

Dash is web3 with a silver lining, but only if you drop the ridiculous messaging of "digital cash" and, instead, fully embrace dash as web3. This means the dash.org website needs a complete overhaul, top to bottom. I don't want to see one mention of "digital cash". As is now, there is not ONE mention of dash being web3. This is not just a lost opportunity but, dare I say, quite possibly your last opportunity to turn things around. And you need to do this now, not just a few tweets on launch day.

My personal research tells me web3 is more profitable than payments and
I am extremely confident in this assessment.

Now the core concept is to make investors rich! The rest is lyrics...

A huge and complete treasure trove opens up endless possibilities!
And poor dreamers with an empty treasury will not be able to support a powerful team of programmers.
An empty treasury turns off investors.
New bold, strong leaders and bright advertising campaigns are needed!
Reply
1 point,11 months ago
I agree, dash could really do with strong leadership, someone not shy to shake things up. Once upon a time, I might of challenged the idea of handing the project over to Binance etc, but given how impotent the DAO and DCG functions, I would be interested in such an idea, provided they didn't operate from the US or the EU.

Either way, I don't think dash has any chance of being digital cash, so it should optimize on web3, where's there's stacks of money to be made.
Reply
2 points,11 months ago
We dont need "bold", "strong leaders" or "bright advertising".

Does google has such things? Not. What google has? Metrics.

We also need metrics! Someone to count the REAL individuals who participate in our community.

Reliable metrics are provided only by mnowatch and Encointer, until now:

https://mnowatch.org/Types/index.html?1=
https://mnowatch.org/crowdnodewatch/
https://mnowatch.org/votethenumbers/prepnumvote3/encointerinfo.php?

Lets hope that the_desert_lynx will also succed to provide reliable metrics too.

I still believe in the "digital cash" dream. And I think we can achieve that dream if we incentivize various local communities to meet eachother and start doing local exchanges. We have four very important ideas at stake with the Encointer proposal:

1) Ability of the MNOs to vote numbers
2) Proof of Personhood for the Dash community combined with anonymity
3) Unified Basic Income for the merged Dash and Encointer communities
4) Incentivize the Dash members to meet eachother in real life, in regular intervals.

Anyone who is a proponent of at least one of the above ideas, he/she should participate to the vote (regardless what vote you will cast) for it to reach the 10% participation threashold.

There are currently 91 proved individuals in the encointer communities.
https://mnowatch.org/votethenumbers/prepnumvote3/encointerinfo.php?

In case the masternodes decide to invite these people and make them Dash members by giving them whatever basic income is decided as number, the developers of Encointer will code for free and intergrate Dash as a native function into the encointer wallet.

Vote for Encointer here: https://mnowatch.org/encointerUBI
Reply
-1 point,11 months ago
ABSORPTION, erasure from history and complete destruction DASH.
Please note that this proposal is being promoted by people who do not have a masternode.
Reply
-1 point,11 months ago
The Encointer communities are mainly local communities and are using local cryptocurrencies, but they also need a universal currency for their international/intercommunity exchanges.

By offering them a basic income paid in Dash in their Dash addresses (all the Encointer members will be required to open Dash addresses in order to claim their Dash basic income) we make the Encointer members also Dash members and we incentivize them to use the Dash crypto as a medium for their international/intercommunity exchanges.

Dash becomes that way an early adopter as the first universal coin that will be used by the Encointer communities.

So there is NO ABSORPTION!

BECAUSE THE LOCAL ENCOINTER COMMUNITIES CERTAINLY NEED AN INTERNATIONAL COIN FOR THEIR INTERCOMMUNITY EXCHANGES, AND OF COURSE A COIN-GATEWAY TO THE REST NON ENCOINTER WORLD. This coin will be Dash.

Dash offers to Encointer a gateway to the rest of the world, and Encointer offers to Dash a proof of personhood and reliable metrics for the Dash members. So it is a win-win model.

Speaking about metrics and reliable proofs, have a look also on how SOLANA merged with HELIUM (a crypto with 5G antennas on roof tops).

Helium provides reliable metrics (because the roof tops are countable), and because Solana transformed Helium to a Solana IOT token, Solana is now number 6 coin in coinmarketcat.

Since 2016 I have warned the Dash community about the idea , but as usual the Dash masternodes community is a not clever enough to catch the opportunity.

Re: Challenge
Then it is obviously high time for DCG to finally welcome MNO volunteers to join DCG.
Or go a step further, and replace much of the non-Dev team with MNO volunteers, and productivity will surely skyrocket.

Spending this kind of money for employees who mostly DON'T CARE isn't going to work out.
We have seen it for years and years now. No matter how much we pay them, they simply DON'T CARE.
MNO have so much more incentive than paid employees, don't you freakin get it ????

All non-Dev roles and positions should be held exclusively by proven MNO.
Its the non-MNOs who are killing this project from within, because we fools allow this nonsense to continue.
For the sake of this project, it gotta stop, and it gotta stop soon.
Reply
2 points,11 months ago
I think you make a fair point and I would dare say, why aren't all the devs MNOs? Are they poor devs? At the very least they should be paid in dash with a time lock.
Reply
3 points,11 months ago
Why do these "roles" need to be inside of DCG? I think it would be better for our project, better for the decentralization of our project too that DCG remains a primarily dev focused entity. As a network let's create other ones for biz dev and marketing.

As for volunteer MNOs playing roles, it's not like anyone is stopping people from stepping up as far as I know. But paid people is better than no people.
Reply
2 points,11 months ago
Agreed.
But still, if your open-mindedness isn't fake and is really sincere, the homepage shouldn't be exclusive to DCG and you should allow and welcome others as well:
A) Currently funded DFO who wish so
B) MNO volunteers who wish to contribute to specific tasks
Reply
4 points,11 months ago
I am all for this and even welcome it. However we need to maintain a certain level of quality on the website, so only work that has a high level of quality would be accepted.

>All non-Dev roles and positions should be held exclusively by proven MNO.

Empty words, as far as you do not add a governance question about into the budget.

And why "ALL the non-Dev roles" and not a big percentage of it? You are absolute and rigid, and this is not good for your character.

You just received 350 dash from donations. Why dont you use them , do the work , provide a proof of concept, and then add a proposal here?

Why this rush to add this proposal and earn another 350 dash from the budget? The 350 dash you already have from donations are not enough for your plan to start?
Reply
0 points,11 months ago
350 is enough for one month's expenses. I can't/won't hire Marina full-time starting now without the budget for a consecutive month.

Part-time is a different story, and that contingency is explained in the pre-proposal.

So why dont you work for a month, bring us promising and countable results, present them to us firstly and then come here and ask for more money? Isnt one month work enough for you?

If one month is not enough, how many months do you need, for your countable flower to flourish?

If it is a WENEVO flower, I dont think I want it, we have too many of them around, in our garden.

Do you hope that your proposal will pass when judged by the extremely shitty voting system of Dash ?

Why dont you FIRST challenge the Dash voting system status quo (the 10% net votes), and THEN cast your proposal?

vazaki3 already answered to you about it here:

https://www.dash.org/forum/index.php?threads/pre-proposal-would-you-like-this-proof-of-individuality-to-be-implemented-in-dash.15946/page-7#post-237039

TLDR ,demo is banned in dashtalk , so his vote does not count.

Besides, you (and all the rest masternodes) may be considered fraudulents when voting, because your voting power inherits from FIAT money and not from the work they have done for the Dash community. Thus many fraudsters and agents are hiding behind the masternode badge.
Reply
1 point,11 months ago
A ban of your demo account does not nullify your vote as demo in the Dash forum polls, as you very well know. By voting again as vazaki3 you corrupted your own Dash forum polls, all in an effort to boost up the percentage of whatever you personally voted in favour for.

The right thing to do, was for you to stop relentessly bumping a poll from 2017 that few people pay attention to anymore and create a new poll and vote on it with your vazaki3 account. Of course this new Dash forum poll will most likely get a lot less participants then your old poll from 2017, as a lot of people have moved on from Dash.
