Proposal description

The concept of DASH Detailed was created with one goal: show the cryptosphere what they’ve overlooked in Dash. To achieve this, I created explainers about our system’s technical aspects. I made tutorials on how to interact with our network. And I gave lots of news updates.

I now feel that this particular mission is complete. It is doubtful that anyone within the cryptosphere has not heard of Dash, or is somehow unaware that we have many videos that can teach them everything they need to know.

So, what’s next?

Current Dash users each know their local markets far more intimately than we as a network ever could. Each knows his own culture, his own language, and his own community’s monetary pain points. Fortunately for us, most of our users probably also have their own social media profiles!

So I propose that we mobilize them.

Exit news updates. Enter market outreach.

I’d like to re-purpose my weekly Wednesday videos. Instead of news, I’d instead like to announce a new and fun way my viewers can spread Dash usage – both within their local communities and to their social networks. Simultaneously.

EXAMPLE, Week 1

Campaign = Get a friend who’s never used Dash before to download her first Dash wallet
Reward = $10 in Dash. That’s $5 for you, and $5 for you to send to your friend’s new wallet.
Hashtag = #FirstDashWallet
Required action = Tweet/Facebook/Instagram a picture of you and your friend together, holding up your mobile Dash wallets on your phones. Include the week’s hashtag and your DASH address! (Body of post can be in any language, only the hashtag must be in English)

MORE EXAMPLES:

- Post a Dash private key QR code somewhere in your town/city with instructions on how to download a wallet and claim the Dash, #DashScavengerHunt
- Get a small merchant in your area to accept Dash, #NowAcceptingDash
- Join the PrivateSend mixing party on such-and-such day between the hours of blah-blah and blah-blah, #PrivacyInPayments
- etc.

What To Expect If This Proposal Passes

SOCIAL PRESENCE: I will start ‘Amanda B Johnson’ Facebook and Instagram accounts so that I can interact with viewers in those places (in addition to Twitter). I’ll also change my Twitter handle from @DASHdetailed to @AmandaBJohnson (or similar, depending on availability of handle).

ACCOUNTING and ROLL OVER: I'll keep an account of precisely how much Dash I give away for each week’s campaign. If there are any unused incentives, I'll roll them over to the next week. If there are incentives left over after the proposal ends, I'll ask for proportionately less in our next proposal. I'll also publish these accounts for your review at the end of the proposal cycle.

VIDEO STYLE: I will create a more friendly and casual setting for my weekly videos than what was used for DASH Detailed. The goal will no longer be to look like I’m in a studio of some kind, but rather, that I’m in my house and you’re hanging out with me (because YouTube, amirite?)

VACATION: The last year has shown me that never taking a week off is non-ideal for my mental and physical health. Assuming that you remain interested in employing me over the next year, I'd like to take two weeks off throughout that period. I'll announce the weeks well ahead of time so viewers know what to expect.

Monthly Cost

Labor (campaign creation, video production, hashtag monitoring, social media management, incentives payment/accounting) = $7000
Incentives to be paid to participants ($1500/weekly) = $6000
Proposal reimbursement = ~$438 (5 Dash)

TOTAL = $13,438
or 151 Dash @ ~$89/coin

Closing

Using this weekly campaign approach, I hope to incentivize others to spread Dash usage in a way that I alone cannot. Because I don’t live everywhere in the world, I can’t speak other languages, and I don’t know my viewers’ friends or families. But they do.

By giving our current users both a reason and a reward to share Dash, I seek to mobilize a global, grassroots marketing network.

Discussion: Should we fund this proposal?

This proposal is weak and is potentially going to put off people new to Dash. It is a waste of funds, premature and should not be getting supported at this stage in Dash's development.

Infrastructure before marketing!

Absurd, backwards assertion. Infrastructure and marketing need to happen at the same time right now.

Amanda's proposal is excellent. It's intelligent, creative, cost effective, potentially massively scalable, and will result in tracked new users.

Absurd, overly optimistic assertion. Marketing is useless without an infrastructure to build on.

It is uninspired, not very creative, a potential waste of funds, not scalable and will result in reduced anonymity for users.

Early and on-going iteraction ensures infrastructure is meeting people's needs as it develops; and as adoption progresses, (which changes needs at different stages). No-one wants to do all the dev and then find it doesn't 'fit', aka 'product/market fit'

Hopefully it's constructive in seeing where others might be coming from. It's about lean startup methodology, going from Plan A to 'A plan that works':

Just watch the first 2.5 mins. I have no connection with guy, I just found the it helpful when doing my business.

Go Amanda, go. Voting YES.

Getting people set up with wallets and $5-10 worth of Dash is exactly the right way to go.

If this works and people complete the actions, I'd be in favor of scaling this type of thing up 10x or even more.

One of the biggest advantages that Dash has from a marketing perspective, is that it can afford to pay people to use it and from there, the users will buy in and increase the budget.

Yes to going global and reaching out to people unfamiliar with Dash or cryptocurrency in general.

I really like the idea. Obviously the proof is in the execution, but seeing how I've never seen you fail to deliver or do a lackluster job so far, I have every reason to expect this will be a success.

It's also perfect timing, since it intersects with DiscoverDash.com's launch. I think you'll make a great tag team with the Dash Force getting the whole world on Dash! :)

I don't think we should "spread Dash usage", because we can't use Dash for anything. At this point in time we should focus on merchant adoption (Shopify.com, Bigcommerce.com, Volusion.com) so that those who have Dash can actually use it to buy products and services.

Just try to introduce Dash to a friend and you'll quickly realize it serves no purpose because you can't spend it on anything useful.

In my opinion (I might be wrong), the problem doesn't seem to be that people don't know they can use Dash to buy goods and services, the actual problem is that a very very small percentage of sites accept Dash.

This proposal is cheap but the opportunity cost of moving along with it is not doing something on the merchant adoption part that would bring 10000x results

I think the sponsorship proposal is very important for several reasons:

1) This event would be one of the first to be sponsored outside the USA, in Europe.
All events are being held in the USA, and we must take advantage of opportunities to INTERNATIONALIZE.

2) In this event, it will promote the use of Dash with discounts of 10% on incoming purchases. (Actual use case of Digital Cash)

3) This can be a great worldwide advertising in a sector (entertainment, which, if they use Dash, can offer discounts on their tickets, theater, cinema etc. Since this would be the FIRST case of success.

4) You can use Jaxx, Copay, etc, wallets it is not essential that you are already Evolution wallet.

5) It would be a proof of concept PoC, real use of Digital Cash.

6) Edward, it would be very interesting to review this proposal of Amanda:

Proposal "abj-global-market-outreach"
And your study modify yours proposal, trying to make synergies with Amanda's proposal,

Note:

EXAMPLE, Week 1

Campaign = Get a friend who's never used Dash before to download her first Dash wallet
Reward = $ 10 in Dash. That's $ 5 for you, and $ 5 for you to send to your friend's new wallet.
Hashtag = #FirstDashWallet
Required action = Tweet / Facebook / Instagram a picture of you and your friend together, holding up your mobile Dash wallets on your phones. Include the week's hashtag and your DASH address! (Body of post can be in any language, only the hashtag must be in English)

MORE EXAMPLES:

- Get a small merchant in your area to accept Dash, #NowAcceptingDash
- Join the PrivateSend mixing party on such-and-such day between the hours of blah-blah and blah-blah, #PrivacyInPayments
- etc.

This activity would try to produce the largest sales flow in the event with Dash, and it would be a success, in its report that more than 50% of the payments that have been made were with Dash.

For all this I will surely vote YES.

Hello Amanda,

One of the reasons I decided to invest in DASH was Dash Detailed. You gave something that is Decentralized and Autonomous a face and for that I thank you!

I am sure whatever endeavors you apply yourself to will be fruitful. Now go and kick some a## in market outreach!

You have my vote.

PS- I live in Uruguay in a city called Punta del Este and plan on having a DASH meetup soon! If you are in the area, you are more than welcome join.

I agree we have entered a new phase and have already voted yes. And, I think your news format show is still a great outreach tool, and would like to see in continue (though perhaps shorter or less frequent). Are they doing human cloning yet?? Oh wait, you're a cutting edge AI that runs on the blockchain and you can scale infinitely...don't we wish...

For those desirous that some news reports continue:

This market outreach can -- when relevant -- feature big news pieces. Such a thing would simply be a weekly campaign. For example:

Campaign: Share this Bloomberg news piece that Overstock.com is now accepting DASH for payment
Hashtag: #OverstockTakesDASH
Reward: $5 for your post/tweet which includes the Bloomberg article and tags 5 other businesses that don't yet take DASH

You get the idea.

I like this idea but would challenge you to think about how to excite people to start using dash without a financial prize model.
You seem to be on the right path. Make using Dash look cool and fun!

it's a big YES for me. global outreach idea is great! i highly recommend to reach out to the crypto pioneers in the Philippines. (hint: contact @helloluis on Twitter). DASH Evolution would be perfect for remittance.

that is all. keep it awesome!

The dude that invented the shopping cart had to pay people to use them initially...I hope that when this is successful the next version of this proposal scales like crazy ...like hundreds/thousands of $20 amazon gift cards to people who can get a couple friends to sign up. idk how we'd alleviate Acedian's problem...is a text message verification program easy to do?

I would still, like to see news updates. At any rate they should not completely be removed.

Maybe just do some newsflashes (these should be paid extra)

I also agree you should take some time off, and in fact I would like to strongly urge you to add a member to your team, maybe even some one here own show already, that keeps your own alt/bitcoin channeel show, but steps in from time to time, by doing so gain even more exposure. Of the top of my mind maybe contact:

TerryL Brock, or Crypto Tips (findable on youtube)

Also I have an idea, what would perhaps be great for in the future wants evolution comes out, and or ALT36 proposol in use >>> A video series where you meet up with, all sort of people and walk with them a day in there live, and how DASH has affected them, people that are unbanked, want to buy stuff they can't with there bank, businesses accepting dash, etc.
For example look at how: louis theroux documentaries work. For me that would be instant win, and I am certain we will be able to gain future attention and attraction from, non-geeky crypto people (please let know what you think of that idea, your free to use it)

* I would also like to see, that DASH starts to hire a communications and marketing manager in the DASH team, who is in charge of steady monthly budget(like a 100/200 dash per month), which will pay out, for extra job ABJ, and doing test pilots, with smaller start-ups. Marketing and communications is growing, and this should start to be streamlined, because both the cost of proposals, and the time spend on reading is to large for smaller marketing and communications proposals.

Re-post from forum:

To address the questions coming from those who personally like DASH Detailed and value it as current investors:

I love that you love DASH Detailed. But I personally would like to shift my efforts to attracting completely new people -- rather than continuing to focus on people who have already bought-in.

In terms of news updates for current investors to gauge the direction of their investment (like @bhkien wisely pointed out), I believe DashForceNews or similar can and should fill that void. It is also up to contractors like the Core team to continually communicate their own value to the network, however -- without my assistance.

TL;DR: To achieve currency status, current investors are important. But new investors are even more important.

I am not too sure. Could this not get abused? Who is going to validate that the same people aren't just uploading multiple pictures with different dash addresses? Put a hat on, sunglasses...it will just be samefag making a living of uploading photos.

I do not think this hypothetical is anything that would become a serious problem, should it materialize.
Reply

Just be careful. I have run some givaways on twitter for one of my projects ,and its amazing how creative scammers can get. I also think $5 might be too much to give away per pop. Just my .02 dash.
Reply
1 point,7 years ago
Hi Amanda. What do you base that on? I think it's safe to say that many such schemes are being incredible abused, especially if they are long-running / reoccurring. I remember reading that some dash rep had to stop handing out free dash at a conference as it was immediately abused.
You will probably be amazed the amount of time and innovation ppl will put in to scam you.
I think it's safe to say that there are a significant number of ppl that would put in effort to scam this even if their direct economic incentives are low. To be anti-dash, pro some-other-alt or simply just trolling.

I would urge you to at least look into this seriously before launching. Check with other similar campaigns.

I'm still voting yes. Cheers!

I like this idea but I will miss the weekly show, please keep doing it! I don't think we need that the new fancy expensive studio show as I like the original format just fine.
Dash Force is also working on a few similar ideas which will be complementary to this prop as well. Others are doing similar stuff too so I guess we all see this type of thing as the next logical step in growing our ecosystem. Should be fun!
