Proposal description

Our local community Bitcuners have grown significantly and many of the members are interested into taking DASH to the next level in the City. We want to convert Cancun into a DASH hotspot around the world and bring a DASH economy to the city.

About Bitcuners
Bitcuners is a 2 year old  crypto user group, we are a group that develops around spreading knowledge on cryptos to common people. We think cryptocurrencies can be of great help to the people that live in Cancun. We share knowledge on how to get a wallet, how to get their first DASH and how to preserve value against the FIAT currency.

We are from Cancun, a city in the southeast part of Mexico that caters to people from all over the world because of it's beautiful sandy beaches. We actually get a lot of people.. out of the 15.2 million tourists that come to Mexico each year. We get almost half with 6.5 million tourist each year. On the past 4 years we have been booming increasing our capacity by 41%.

We think that DASH could become a great tool to do business with people from all over the world and also between the locals. Unfortunately the Mexican Peso is not very stable and tends to devaluate constantly, that means that businesses and people's income become less and less.

Moving to Cryptocurrency makes FIAT become just another shitcoin and the value be preserve and even increase. DASH price has shown an extreme resiliency to devaluation and has had a great development throughout it's 3 year history. We believe DASH can help us get more people into a sustainable economy.

Bitcuners has grown to a 30+ strong group and we are welcoming new members each week. The group is open to anyone willing to join and participate on our telegram group which also host people from different parts of the world. We also have a social media presence on twitter, facebook and Instagram. Finally we host face-to-face meetups each week where people gets a chance to talk and share experiences on different aspects of cryptocurrency, like find help and solutions and information about this world.

Our members have been also very active in the DASH community, the Spanish CM, Silvio, is from our group. JZA has worked as a core team developer, translator for many articles and the official DASH website as well as the Dashcore wallet and currently manage the DASH en Español group in Telegram and Facebook. We have ran a program in our group that had allow us to get people involved with DASH instantly through our reimbursement program Dash for Drinks.

Current Events

At this point, Bitcuners has successfully carry out meetups that have grown a lot and have caught the eyes of many media outlets. This have led to some businesses taking a step forward and open doors for DASH and Bitcoin to do business. Other businesses are following through and I think we got a momentum to market DASH strongly to the rest of the city.

The timing is also great because right now the Spring break season is over and we have a window to make improvements before Summer. So doing an open house type event for businesses where they can get to experience DASH as a payment medium as well as some consulting on how to adopt DASH on their business could be a great first step.

We also want regular people to learn about DASH. We are confident that if we get people to hear about DASH, they will be interested enough to check it out and follow through.

What are we doing so far?

We are already taking steps to ensure that the word is out, and people know what some businesses have done with DASH. We are about to publish an article about local businesses taking DASH on a local newspaper.
We are in talks with a local newspaper and an article will follow and we hope to get some flyers and general DASH information on those places for people that want to learn more about the system. Here is an early version

What are we planning to do?

We got a momentum and it would be the perfect time to get DASH involved and try different strategies. We would need to hire a street team in order to push the DASH awareness. Get them to distribute the flyers, also put a display time for DASH on the main streets of the city.

We are also planning to market DASH to businesses by having a medium size event and have DASH people pitch them the idea of using DASH for their businesses. The event could be of great benefit by the presence of DASH community personalities. We hope to capture enough attention about the cryptocurrency to at least put the option on the table.

 1. Street team    9.8
 2. DASH fee    5
 3. Flyers printout    9.2
 4. Event catering    20.2
 5. Social media marketing    18.41
 6. City display    34.24
 7. Design and operational cost    27.45
 8. International Dash speaker    74
 9. Business event venue    38.05
Total: 240 DASH over 2 month period

What we plan to achieve
We plan to achieve at first, outreach to the business community and strong awareness of the DASH brand. The event would be for a selected sample and we plan to have a good impression by having some wine catering ambiance. We divided the process into 2 months, first month will be for the marketing and promotion of DASH and the second month will include the event and related expenses. In total this will open opportunities for consulting on DASH be able to help develop the economy.

Why do this in Cancun?

Cancun is a world recognized tourist place which receives people from all over the world. Is also a relative small town capable of networking through the city with relative small cost. This give us the advantage of having a higher impact in the city with a conservative budget. Also will allow us to sample a base of sophisticated businesses that goes from the service industry like restaurants and hotels.

Why now?

Right now Spring break is over and we enter in a very brief low season before summer kicks back in, so timing should be precise. We will try to book the venue somewhere between the end of May until start of June, also have 3 weeks notice invitations and RSVP.

The display could stay all through summer so Tourists could come and see the DASH brand on one of the main streets of the city were tourists walk by everyday.

Qualifications
Bitcuners is a group composed by a diverse group of people from different walks of life. We have different talents on the field of software development, data security, Networking, accounting, financial development legal and sales. However, we will rely on the overview of a professional marketer firm and event manager professional with the necessary experience in the city and to help us with the logistics and overhead.

We hope to get this movement started and hopefully start nurturing an economic community that can start developing business using DASH. We will report on the success stories and results and will document as much as we can so other cities can kickstart their own medium event. We also hope that if this is successful we can target other cities throughout latin america.

Hi guys just want to list the updates we have been having since your support last month. This proposal was approved so I will copy this back into the formal proposal comments. We have been having a lot of hard work done on having this campaign in a position to achieve a major success. Build an economy from the ground up is not easy task, and convincing people to put their business on the line for a relative unknown technology takes time. However we are confident that once they see the advantages of using this technology we would be able to have more and more people jumping on this technology.

First update: https://steemit.com/cryptocurrency/@jza/dash-revolution-is-coming-to-cancun
Second update: https://steemit.com/cryptocurrency/@jza/dash-event-update and https://steemit.com/cryptocurrency/@jza/dash-t-shirts-are-ready-to-go
Third update: https://steemit.com/dash/@jza/dash-displays-are-finally-live

We are well on our way to our event, our Speakers include Juan Galt, who gave a talk on 2016's Anarchapulco and Frank Tocco which is very active on the DASH community and a Blockpay Ambassador. We have around 40 people out of the 50 confirmed to the event and will have equipment and staff to provide support and information for people about DASH including an infographics and gift cards to get them started on DASH technology.

Thanks to the MN network for your trust and support and hope we can go into other alternative proposals we are planning with other organizations like universities and business chamber of commerce.

So I'm campaigning for this proposed project this month because I really think it's an amazing opportunity and proposed by amazing people:

Dash Destination : Cancun!

I honestly can't believe how badly this proposal is going. I suppose it's not a simple project to understand, especially since the project's goals are very long term. In fact, this is sort of the "kick off" of a long term adoption project. Maybe it would help to know who jza is.

JZA manages Dash en Espanol on Facebook and Telegram and is the person who translated for DASH.org.

JZA has also been a long time developer of Open Office. You can read about him here: https://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/User:JZA

He has also been mentoring students for 3 years on Google Summer of Code

been doing work for OLPC (One Laptop Per Child), been involved with the KDE community

And has been the Country manager for FLISOL for 5 years. FLISoL, an acronym for Festival Latinoamericano de Instalación de Software Libre, is the biggest event for spreading Software Libre since 2005, performed simultaneously in different countries of Latin America.

Please reconsider your vote. This is a great project that really has the potential of spreading Dash use all over the world. The Bitcunners group has been around a long time and have been growing. They are huge Dash enthusiasts and SO ACTIVE! We need to harness this energy! It's a great plan, and their location couldn't be better. What we learn from this will be invaluable.

JZA thinks this project should win based on it's merits alone, but life doesn't work that way. I want you to know we are dealing with royalty of the Open Source world. OK, that's a little much , but DAMN people, how many people do you know that are THIS passionate?

This project really deserves your re-consideration.

If you vote no on this because you think all marketing decisions need to be made by the core group, you are killing one of the best and most valuable asset a decentralized (or proportedly decentralized) project has. It's autonomous groups of people moving the project, the message, the adoption forward. I think MN owners are becoming extremely narrow minded. I've seen posts saying we shouldn't even spend budget money on outside projects, but only give it to the core team! Talk about killing Dash!!!! Please, don't start thinking this way!

Thanks for reading!

I honestly think this is a very interesting proposal. Cancun it is a very attractive destination where I am sure a lot of people would be willing to meet for the event. Many companies and congress organize their gathering events every year in Cancun due to this fact, for example CiscoLive.

First, I gotta say I love this as a slogan from joezippy: "Dash Destination : Cancun!"

The most exciting thing I see about this project is for the potential of what we can learn from it. What works, what doesn't, etc... This is a group of motivated people. The Bitcunners have already gotten 3 brick and mortar businesses to accept Dash. And have a lot of businesses working on it. The idea is to make Cancun massively adopt and spread the word of Dash. I don't know if this is going to work, but if it does, and the Bitcunners give us a report telling us what worked best, we'll have invaluable information for when Evolution is out and we start THAT massive campaign. You think a marketing company will magically know how to market "money?" This is NEW, nobody knows how to do this yet! And I have a really good feeling about starting in big tourist destinations. I think this might really be the ticket!

Thanks for your comment, YES!! this is what we want to have the chance to do. Businesses that have embrace it clearly think this is the future, and that represent more business they definitely want to be a part of it. Plus the relative low cost of entry makes it easy for those business to implement. So we just want to spread the word to the rest of the business community and whoever wants to jump in, will.
This is how we think the chicken-and-egg problem can be solved. And eventually once we have a biggier pie of the community accepting DASH I think a mainstream tipping point might happen.
But we need to start with a bang.
Reply
0 points,7 years ago
I know somebody else said it before.
But this is a aim at the mainstream user adoption.
For this proposal and other similar ones we need evolution to be complete.

After evolution is complete I would even go so far as to say hire some one at DASH that is in charge of budgeting for these type of proposals, lets say like a budget of 50.000 usd per month, that than then get divided over these times of promotion events

This will do to things 1 allot less proposals will be made (which may or may not be to substantial for promoters to put up front, and it will leave more time for masternode owners to study other proposals

I mean it should be clear we need some level of promotion and we may also need some (loose) guide lines how to promote DASH to the public (aka a proper corporate identity, similar to other big brands ).

Keeping track of how who, and how did a good job and how did a bad job is a full time job. We need to hire someone to both budget and delegate. And at the end of each month a proper statement where the money got spent on.

(may my idea can be put up as a (pre) proposal ? )

I disagree that the timing is too soon. This is just the start of getting name recognition and some more merchants to accept Dash payments. Why do we always have to have a centralized "core" group do these things? Here we have a whole club, the Bitcunners, organizing this thing, hiring the people, preparing for the gatherings. They do it out of passion. This is what we want to harness! It's also decentralized.

Can the core team manage promotional projects in Kenya, Belarus, Rio de Janeiro? No! If we want Dash to be successful all over the world, we have to give communities a way to promote and establish Dash in their regions!

The core team has already been concentrating primarily on the USA. That's great, that's where I live, but it's so limited! Lets h ave an outlet for grass roots!

It seems you have focused much more on Dash in this proposal as opposed to the Bitcuners meetup proposal and that is welcomed and appreciated.

It's great that you're reaching out to your local community and businesses.

However, pre - Evolution, this seems a little ambitious, and the price tag is just too high.

I may change my mind upon further reflection.... but right now, I'm sorry, I'm voting NO.

They're doing a HUGE event! They need the money to do this.
Reply

A modestly-priced street team is great as a way to plant a seed. But I wonder about the value of doing concerted business outreach at this time, pre-Evolution. I think John Bush would attest to that. Can we get more specifics about the event?
Reply
0 points,7 years ago
Is a brand awareness event, so the goal is for the business community to learn about DASH as a payment system that can improve the payment experience (over credit cards, banks, etc)
We showed at the beginning of the paper that we have already got a few businesses and we want to use this to really market it to the rest of the city.

I think it is a good way to support and encourage the adoption of spraying in an area, to make local people understand their operation and the use that can be given as a moned and thus promote their adoption, these events help and are good for the community

I learned about Dash from somwone in the bitcuners group, and it was this drive that made me save enough to get some masternodeshares and I hope to get my own masternode someday soon. I am not near that city but I would go to this event if it is held. And I think the city and event can be used to greatly push this great project forward. If you are undecided vote yes, if you are ser on no, maybe you could give this event a chance? If anything this groups eforts put Dash on my map. I would love to see them do the same for other people.

from 16 Đ (1Đ < $20) monthly amount to 120 Đ (1Đ ~ $72) ... that is a increase of more than 20 times

this time most of the cost is related to the mentioned business event:
- Business Event 58.25 dash
- International dash speakers 74 dash (per speaker)

have you been in contact with the speakers and is there any outline for the event?

I have been in touch with the community on Telegram and I know they are a very active community and that doing this for DASH will benefit the currency greatly. Cancun is a great city to start something like this, and if they succeed having the brand awareness, it will become great for other cities. The ammount doesnt seem high at all considering other proposals ask for ridiculous ammounts. I would definetly be voting Yes on this proposal.

I do like the idea, and I don't question that jza and bitcuners are quite active. I'm a little concerned, however, about the amount, and justifications like this, <sic> "The ammount doesnt seem high at all considering other proposals ask for ridiculous ammounts."

Help me understand.

The prices are not out of scope, flying someone internationally and having them on a luxury hotel along with other expenses for a weekend, a 2500 bill is not that unrealistic. Along with hiring a luxury venue, with wine and food, and amenities, and staff and finally factor some volatility of the coin, is by no means a crazy amount.
Reply
0 points,7 years ago
"a 2500 bill is not that unrealistic" - I agree with you about this. What caught my eye, however, was a total bill on the order of 17k, including about 2K for flyers and distribution. Having run events, I don't want to second guess your every cost, however. I support it being a quality event. It's just that luxury events should also have a reasonable expectation of luxury returns. Maybe this has that. I'll support it and look forward to hearing the results.

Ok like the video showed, this is 2 different strategies, one is the brand awareness of DASH, and the other is the business event. The street team and flyers wont be for the business event. This would be a multi-month campaign to build DASH brand awareness to the general public, and you are right, I think we somewhat overprice the flyers-printing cost, but also under price the displays costs so it kind of balance out. Street teams might be set for 600 usd a month, for a couple of months so 1200 usd, while the display might be up for 2000 a month. I might be able to make the adjustment for clarity.

Crypto is happening south Mexico, people are hearing and reading about it on the web, the news, and showing interest.
With a push people will not only get interested but get involved.
The group has grown, some foreigners are showing interest and foreigners attract foreigners, and foreigners attract local people, and so on. Bring it home.

I think this is a real unique opportunity to do a concentrated effort in a tourist town to see if we can create an environment that will spread through the tourism industry as well as within a large city. I look forward to hearing reports, but I'm thinking this will start a chain reaction that will effect Cancun for many months and years to come. Very cool!
