HardFork Series: Where DASH Leads Culture Through Sci-Fi

If you didn't catch Doug Karr and Eric Vance Walton's HardFork Series proposal YouTube Live AMA this afternoon, check it out here.
(*See More Proposal Updates Below in red)

HardFork is a crypto-noir thriller set in a near future world where decentralized factions work to overthrow their society's centralize regime. Bridging state of the art filmmaking and storytelling techniques with the fascinating landscape of DASH in the narrative space, HardFork will evoke a detailed future-forward sci-fi world in which blockchain and cryptocurrency play an integral part. HardFork affords the potential to break new ground for DASH by showcasing its benefits to the public through a state-of-the art production with Hollywood actors, visionary directing, amazing special effects... and above all, a powerful storyline that captivates audiences. Here's the proof of concept HardFork teaser trailer:

The HardFork Core Team is...

Doug Karr - Director, Writer: Doug has worked in the industry since 1997 creating original independent films screened at over 50 festivals including Sundance and won multiple awards including 3 Cannes Lions. His films have sold to Netflix and numerous television channels and been seen by audiences around the world. Here's Doug’s Sundance film TenForGrandpa and his reel.

He is joined by... Eric Vance Walton, an acclaimed American author and Thurber Treat award winner. Adil Elias, writer, producer and blockchain specialist. Andrew Levine, who is currently a core team member of Steemit. Matthew Niemerg, former IBMer and distributed ledger technology expert. Naomi Brockwell, producer, actor, and emcee for blockchain conferences (Consensus: Invest, D10E, and many more).

Hard Fork Talent
Christopher James Baker, actor, writer and director, best known for Netflix’s Ozark (2017), The Purge: Election year (2016) HBO’s True Detective (2014), Sanctum (2011), The Condemned (2007) and many more. Elia Monte-Brown (Madam Secretary, The Affair) Erinn Ruth (Billions, Blindspot) Naomi Brockwell has multiple roles in the project beyond producing; she’ll lend her acting talents to HardFork, with an impressive reel: leading actress of the Lionsgate thriller "Subconscious", associate producer of the multi-award winning feature documentary "Bitcoin: The End of Money as We Know It", producer for Stossel and ReasonTV, and co-executive producer of the award-winning documentary drama "Audition".Aside from the great talent already attached to the series, we have a bigger casting process that will take place in January 2018. Kate Geller, our Casting Director is a very well-known and respected Hollywood professional that worked on a multitude of blockbuster movies such as John Wick, The Wolverine, Noah, The Maze Runner, Demolition and more recently, Stephen King’s The Dark Tower.... And many other marquee productions. From Production to post, our crew is stacked with top of the line Hollywood professionals to bring HardFork to the screen in style. In the sound department, we are lucky to count the amazing, two-time Emmy winner Charles Maynes. His work is acclaimed both in series (The Pacific, Outcast) and movies (Constantine, Tarantino’s Planet Terror… etc). Our production department includes Liz Cowie, a producer with VICE ON HBO, who has worked as a senior producer at Vice where she’s overseen content from beginning discussions, to locked picture for over 12 years. Celebrated Cinematographer Graham Willoughby went from lensing our trailer to the latest David Letterman Netflix series. Our competitive advantage is that we have a solid, experienced and talented professional team that will advocate for DASH through professional film production both on-screen and off.

The Tipping Point - A Great Problem To Solve
Despite the spectacular growth of the blockchain industry, the sector is still inadequately represented by the quantity and caliber of media productions that are designed to bring distributed ledger technologies to the wider public. The problem is, in order for ideas to spread and hit mass-adoption, it’s necessary to have communicators who can bridge the gap between the technology’s new and unprecedented concepts and the wider public.

Bringing DASH to the Masses
Our main focus with the HardFork Series is to create a captivating world where we can convey the concept of blockchain and cryptocurrency ideas in a compelling story that resonates with the masses. Imagine if DASH could cut through the media landscape noise—instability, FUD and FOMO—in the blockchain space and be able to showcase both their tech and their vision through a powerful storyline that captivates audiences.

Unique Value Offer
HardFork will provide a impactful visual representation by a member of the DASH team via the character's storyline and will incorporate DASH’s unique traits into a long-arc storyline while playing a key role in the series as game-changers in an epic crypto-noir narrative.
  • DASH will be represented in a minimum of 5 episodes within the HardFork Season 1 storyline (6-8 episodes total), including some of the specific uses of the DASH governance model and innovative approach to technology.
  • Regular screen time through a character representing DASH.
  • That character will have a guaranteed minimum appearance in 5 episodes of Season 1. Minimum of 60 spoken lines of dialogue.
  • An executive producer credit + cameo for a DASH representative of the team/community’s choosing.
  • A featured interview in HardFork PR spots and exclusive material.
  • Premiere Screening invites for up to 20 team members and another 20 drawn from community members.
  • Weekly gamified DASH giveaways integrated into the HardFork viewership to the most engaged and influential members of the audience.
  • Printed/projected DASH logos in all HardFork appearances/presentations/posters/paid media/etc., beginning with our upcoming showcase as part of a HardFork Series Fashion Week scheduled to be present at the Microsoft Space on 5th Avenue in NYC with DASH giveaways, spearheaded by our growth hacking team at Hommenificent.
  • A DASH/HardFork branded content commercial spot created exclusively for DASH featuring stars from the HardFork series - Doug Karr’s commercials have starred numerous celebs including Andre3000, olympic gold medalist Aly Raisman, Disney/pop star Sabrina Carpenter, and YouTube celeb Bethany Mota, along with winning 3 Cannes Lions, his ads have been featured in AdWeek’s Top Ten lists multiple times.

Thanks for Reading.  Let’s Bring DASH to the Mainstream!

She just released this in-depth video for her audience that features Jason King and Joel Valenzuela explaining what DASH is and why they love it! Check it out.
  • UPDATE 12/23/17 - Matt McKibbin chats about the HardFork Series and DASH - How this proposal could change culture and his excitement about being part of the advisory board. Here's the VIDEO.
  • UPDATE 12/21/17 - Naomi Brockwell just did an amazing interview with Joël Valenzuela for Dash Force News where she talks DASH and how we have an opportunity to shape the narrative with the HardFork series, here’s a highlight.
  • UPDATE 12/18/17 - VIDEO Jason King sits down with Naomi to chat about the HardFork DASH proposal and his recent addition to the advisory board, check it out.
  • UPDATE 12/14/17 - We’ve added three new leaders in the blockchain space to the HardFork Series advisory board, Bruce Fenton, Matt McKibbin and DASH Conference London MC Jason King. (All other updates moved below proposal...)
  • UPDATE 12/11/17 - This is a preferred placement (at a one-time only, first money in sizable discount). We are limiting the offers and this offer is in the very top tier and close to our hearts as we are offering DASH to be represent by Bendrix, the Sensei-like masternode that discovers our protagonist Van Misham (who works for the Central Financial Services), and brings him into the Decentralized movement (D.faction). Bendrix is a star character, an anchor for the protagonist and serves as Van’s mentor throughout the series (in Obi-Wan Kenobi/Telemachus archetype).
  • UPDATE 12/11/17 - Bendrix will have a prominent DASH tattoo.
  • UPDATE 12/11/17 - Along with that, the words “DASH” or “mDASH” will be written and/or spoken in every episode of the season.
  • UPDATE 12/11/17 - The words DASH or the DASH logo will be displayed in any on-screen trading graphic in a preferred position.
  • UPDATE 12/11/17 - Liberal representations of person to person payments will be visually represented again with the Dash logo and or spoken name.
    • UPDATE 12/07/17 - A distinctive opportunity to set DASH apart. So crucial in our entertainment focused society to be associated with media that pushes trends and influences culture.
    • UPDATE 12/07/17 - Audiences have become inured to conventional advertising, that’s not to say good ad media can’t cut through, but what our culture craves now is long term serial engagement. From narrative series to gaming to a connected network of fan fiction and interplay. Our roadmap for the HardFork Universe includes a 7+ year track of deep engagement which DASH will be a part of from the ground up.
    • UPDATE 12/07/17 - Product placements are highly effective. They’re in every show for a reason. Repeated exposure to a product like DASH over successive episodes will provide unparalleled name recognition and help DASH capture the slogan Digital Cash.
    • UPDATE 12/07/17 - The gamified Dash Sweepstake integrated through easter eggs within the HardFork plot, will not only give audiences an opportunity to open wallets and use DASH, but will also help to educate them on how DASH WORKS. Driving viewers to a specific DASH-HardFork Sweepstakes websites, we will include a wealth of info on the benefits and workings of DASH.
    • UPDATE 12/07/17 - Subtly educate viewers about DASH's unique attributes in a fun and entertaining way, emphasizing blazingly fast transaction speed, DASH's InstantSend allowing retail transactions to fully confirm in seconds, huge potential for widespread point-of-sale integration, DASH’s immense scalability and much more. As well as privatesend, the treasury, the balance of rewards for miners and masternodes, and Dash Evolution.
    • UPDATE 12/07/17 - HardFork will be a connector that introduces DASH to a brand new group of people, a demographic that is in alignment with the values and philosophy of the cryptocurrency community. Helping the non-crypto savvy make a leap from “Oh crypto: you mean Bitcoin?” to “Oh crypto: you mean Dash?” by infusing DASH into the lexicon an immeasurable ROI for DASH.

      Thanks for your Consideration!

Also, the executive producer's credit should go to the Dash DAO, not some random member unless someone has actually been working on this project with you? I think having the Dash DAO as Executive producer would make quite a statement!

The cool factor for a crypto-thriller that featured Dash would be pretty high. And for the 16-32 year old demographic, the plot line of the old entrenched establishment oppressing the common folks and the little guy would be a great fit. The internet native generation is also highly likely to view "digital internet money" like Dash as a far more natural choice than credit cards, checks or paper money.

That's a good question! With this series we're aiming for a Netflix release, so that has the potential for millions of views. These things are super hard to predict though! For example, one of my feature films that we made for a tiny tiny budget was actually sold to Lionsgate with distribution in about 14 different countries, but another film I produced with a budget of several million never really gained traction with viewers despite winning awards at festivals. We're hoping for the best, and putting a stellar team together to give us the best odds, and I have no doubt that with the crypto community behind it as we've seen so far, we'll already have an amazing built-in audience that will be really attractive to distributors. We'll see!
What we can say though is that it will be a really high quality series that hopes to reframe the narrative regarding cryptocurrency, and Dash would be featured heavily on the side of our hero. That's why I came onboard, I presume that crypto will be increasingly demonized in the coming years, so I want to be involved with a high quality production that will put us in charge of the narrative.
Also, thanks for your yesizz!!! :)

I love the concept of HardFork and I am confident that they are capable of producing a classy series. Just imagine if it became a hit series with Dash front and centre. I voted yes ages ago but I can't understand why this isn't passing. There are still some hours left and there is plenty of available budget so come on guys, let's get this project across the line. 'No' voters please consider changing.

Thank you, TroyDash and Seascape, for your votes and for your words of support! A last minute approval here would be incredible for HardFork. Getting this funding now would give us the fuel we need to ramp up production more quickly, and in the entertainment industry, timing is crucial. As we've expressed, we are committed to shaping the narrative correctly and introducing the crypto/blockchain sector to the wider public in the best way light. From my perspective as writer and co-creator of the series, this futuristic crypto-noir world we have created is so cerebral and rich in detail...so very different from what people have seen before. One reason I have so much confidence in HardFork is it seems to have that "x-factor", the undeniable but difficult to fully explain element that draws people in. Doug and I refer to HardFork as "the project that is begging to be born." We're fully committed and excited to begin building a movement and fanbase around it! We appreciate the Dash community and the consideration of our project!

I have reason to believe the US Feds were actively spreading propaganda against crypto and bitcoin via prime time TV shows. It was not overly effective, but it certainly didn't help any. Now we have an opportunity to counteract that by portraying Dash as the answer to the centralized banksters.

I'm tired of playing defense, let's go on the offensive now. And hey, we can afford it.

Hi dashmaximalist thanks so much for your question! Pre-production is all about execution, and execution is all about liquidity. We want to create HardFork in a decentralized manner where we are able to spend the financing to ramp up into full-scale production at a rapid rate and not disrupt the creative flow. Our fear was that an escrow would impede development, as it would an ICO trying to become fully functional and implemented immediately after tokenization. We researched escrows quite a bit before launching the proposal and looked through all the others to see where it was a fit and where it was not, and decided it was in the best interest of expediting the production of the HardFork series to go without. On TV and film projects of this nature it’s important to not let anything impede the ability to move quickly.

Just to add a personal note here. I’ve never been more passionate about a creative project than I am of HardFork and the decentralized nature in which we’re approaching it. That’s half the equation, the other half is the means to pull it off with great success, and success in this proposal will allow us just that. The means to take our package and creative to the next level as we move expeditiously through fundraising and into pre-pro and production to move DASH to greater adoption and increased market cap through the HardFork fanbase.

Hi Doug and team, great plan, well presented. After watching the teaser 5 times I am liking it every time more.

I understood "Dash" is one of the heroes sitting at the Arthurian-like table to overthrow the totalitarian Centralized Financial Services in control of Liberty, right? Could you give us a little more spoiler please?

I am especially curious (already) how you will depict the future by 2029 of "DASH governance model and innovative approach to technology" and if and how it will play a role in the storyline, or just a worthy mentioning? Will MN owners vote for wrong or right?!? Will they vote to.... HARDFORK? :)

Also, will this hero wear Dash as its name or are you thinking of a more *fabulous* reference to Dash? If so, how?

One last question: will the other characters at "TheTable" represent other real coins, besides the one and only BTC, after it has already been blockchain forking for over 12 years and assuming prankcoin does not exist yet? And how will they complement the hero faction? Each rules a certain crypto-kingdom? Spoiler alert: I, as a DashBull, see only one future of course :)

    Hey paulkuit,
Thank you so much for your support! This is a preferred placement (at a sizable one-time only, first money in discount). We are limiting the offers and this offer is in the very top tier and close to our hearts as we are offering DASH to be represent by Bendrix, the Sensei-like QuantumNode that discovers our protagonist Van Misham (who works for the Central Financial Services), and brings him into the Decentralized movement (D.faction). Bendrix is a star character, an anchor for the protagonist and serves as Van’s mentor throughout the series (in an Obi-Wan Kenobi/Telemachus archetype).
    - Bendrix will have a prominent DASH tattoo.
    - The DASH governance model and innovative approach to technology will absolutely play a plot specific role in the series. We're imagining the DASH DAO as a Robin Hood-like funding mechanism that pushes sweeping reforms for the underrepresented in 2029 (a metaphor for what DASH is up to today!).
    - Along with that, and the offer points listed above, the words “DASH” or “mDASH” will be spoken in every episode of the season.
    - The words DASH or the DASH logo will be displayed in any on-screen trading graphic in a preferred position.
    - Liberal representations of person to person payments will be visually represented again with the Dash logo and or spoken name.
Thanks again for your questions paulkuit!

I see Naomi Brockwell was involved in Atlas Shrugged, Who is John Galt. I bet this is not just a coincidence. Who (of the team) went down the rabbit hole of cryptocurrency first and dragged everybody else along for the ride? Obviously your heart is in the right place.

I like the idea a lot. And certainly cryptocurrency in general, and Dash in particular have been portrayed in a negative light for too long. Seeing Dash as a critical part of the movement to overthrow the centralized legacy oligarchs would be a great change of pace. Looking at your previous projects, I don't doubt that you could produce a superb product. The trailer is just a concept piece, and would not have the fit and finish of the actual film. As noted by PlateGlassArmor, it would improve your odds substantially if we had a bit longer to get to know you and your proposal.

I wrote an article recently (and so did Strophy) about this exact phenomenon. So, I applaud your eagerness and enthusiasm, but that may reduce your chances actually by skipping important steps. You can read the article and it will sound like it was written about you.

    https://www.dash.org/forum/threads/proposers-skipping-important-steps-why-is-that-eagerness.19354/

But we have seen miracles at the end of the voting cycle before, so all hope is not lost. I would vote yes and encourage others to do the same. Especially if there is sufficient un-allocated Dash at the end of the voting period.

Cryptocurrencies and crowd funding are changing the entertainment industry, and you guys appear to be right on the cutting edge. When you present this to Netflix et al, it would make the pitch that much better to mention that the film was actually financed using decentralized crowd funding and Dash cryptocurrency.

Carry on, have fun, win! Solarguy

Thanks for your kind comment, Solarguy (stillcantstop)! I’ve been involved in cryptocurrency for almost two years now and it’s changed my life tremendously for the better. This has turned me into an evangelist for the sector because of the great freedom it’s given me to live my life in a way that I wish to. I've experience the benefits of blockchain first-hand.

We’re thrilled you like the project!

Your article is insightful, and you definitely hit the nail on the head in our case. We are very eager to get this series made and, as a result, we are working a bit backwards now and really hoping to garner community support after we posted our proposal. We definitely realize this is a lot of money to ask you for but our entire team is committed to giving the Dash community an incredible ROI.

I believe in this project so much that I stepped away from a corporate day job of twenty three years, about a month and a half ago, to devote all of my time to the HardFork Series. To a large degree, our eagerness stems from wanting to make 100% certain that the first professional grade mainstream series made to depict the cryptocurrency and blockchain gets it "right".

We’re all hoping for a miracle like you describe. It’s our aim to change as many of these “no’s” to “yeses” as we can.

Many of us on the core HardFork Series team have said so many times before that the HardFork Series is a project just begging to be born. We feel that the time is perfect to introduce cryptocurrencies to the masses and can think of no better delivery system than this. We really hope the Dash community chooses to sponsor our project. Your comment made my day and I can say that it did the same for a few of our other team members as well. Thank you!

Great to hear and look forward to it! Got the opportunity to meet some of these people at Steemfest and have known and interested with them through Steem(it) over the past year. Great project and people that I look forward to help and work with sometime. Support this proposal and wish all of them the best!

Well, this kind of thing is a huge gamble without the best odds. Big payoff if this team produces something good and sells it, and places Dash effectively. I'm still for gambling in these early days, but a lot of people are more reluctant. Is there any way you can prove your team? For all we know, you have access to a camera man on other projects and have simply stolen shots to create this trailer ;) If your team really is behind using Dash, would they go on camera, state their name and say that they are asking on your behalf for this funding?

Hey TanteStefana thanks for your comment! We're going to do everything in our power to make an awesome series and move Dash forward in the best way possible. We totally understand your wanting proof of identity and luckily we are in fact who we say we are :)

Writer/Director Doug Karr made a little introduction video that you can check out here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=URw9MeTXLLs

MNOs, let's not be put off my the quality of the trailer as a proof of concept. The talent and signs of positive past performance are there. We can expect quality to improve once it hits full production.

I'm assuming Dash would take the place of the "Liberty Dollars" referenced in the trailer, no?
    Reply
    2 points,7 years ago
Hey kalon thanks for your comment and seeing the potential in our project! The Liberty Dollars would actually be the antagonist’s firewalled digital currency. The one-world, centralized government’s feeble attempt to replicate decentralized cryptocurrency but control it. Dash on the other hand will offer a path to freedom for the suffering masses.

As for the quality of the trailer, it was shot in 5 days with a budget of $5,000 without a penny left for post, director Doug Karr composited the 47 VFX shots by himself to cut costs. We’re striving to produce the absolute best series we can, and doing that requires a large budget. With the DASH sponsorship we will make a series that looks amazing while serving as an engine to move DASH forward.

Will you plug Dash with some type of commercial with the show?
    Reply
    2 points,7 years ago
Thank you so much for this question, it made us realize that the last paragraph of our proposal was cut off, which details our offering of a DASH/HardFork branded content commercial spot created exclusively for DASH featuring stars from the HardFork series. We’ve taken out some spaces in the proposal text, but if the last image in the proposal is getting cut off for you, refreshing the browser seems to fix it. So thanks for tipping us off to that!

And what network are you working with?
    Reply
    1 point,7 years ago
We aren’t really aiming for network TV as our first choice because we feel it’s limiting. We are aiming to make a “Golden Age of Television” style series and we feel steaming services are much more progressive and have a wider reach. It’s our goal to sell the series to Netflix (where Doug sold his feature, and Chris stars in Ozark) or one of their competitors, as streaming services have the potential to reach a much wider global audience and offer greater creative freedom. Although actual viewership is difficult to tabulate (according to Nielson data: the Stranger Things Season 2 premiere drew more than 15 million US viewers in three days, Netflix claims it’s even higher), Netflix is available in 190 countries and judging by their social media (Twitter for Netflix US has 4.16 million followers, Stranger Things for example has 1.5 million) their reach is massive. We also feel these more progressive companies are a much greater fit for a project with our subject matter.
Thanks again for your thoughtful questions TanteStefana, we’re happy to answer any others you may have!

Very cool! The trailer looks awesome.
The only thing I would change is the face tattoo's. You don't want to mess up a hot actresses/actors face with that. It does not look good visually and will not sell as well to general audiences. I'm sure there is a reason behind it but I would try to work it in another way. Maybe some kind of small chip or single tattoo on the temple, each with a different design/symbol.

So glad you liked it, Mastermined! Thanks for the feedback, you make a good point. Those tattoos are tracking marks intended to allow an augmented reality program to align an AR overlay overtop the fictional world. In the series, which is set in 2029, the Central Finance Service (the totalitarian, one world government) employs AR to beautify a crumbling and corrupt world and make life more palatable for the suffering masses. We appreciate your support!

Amazing, so glad you like it! And thanks for your super helpful note. The trailer was an opportunity for us to try out all kinds of production design elements without being locked into anything too specifically. A chance to play within the world we’re creating and find what works well and what can be improved upon before the full production. This is one of the reasons we’re so excited about the decentralized nature of this process, being able to get community feedback as we’re developing and making the project is rare, exceptionally useful and creatively inspiring. So thanks so much Mastermined, I really appreciate your input, and look forward to hearing more as we move HardFork along.

    ROI for Dash?
    Thank you for you proposal.

    2 points,7 years ago
Thank you for your question. The ROI for Dash will be the introduction of the coin’s unique strengths to millions of viewers. With continued input from the community we aim to concentrate on:
    1. Dash’s amazing privacy record.
    2. The fact that it’s very decentralized
    3. Dash’s scalability.
We will also conduct giveaways of coin wallets throughout the series that are integrated within the narrative which will get the coin into the hands of new users. Lastly we plan to feature the Dash logo directly within the series itself with tasteful recurring “Back to the Future” style product placements. If you have any other questions on this front, please let us know. Thanks!

More: if Dash will not be the "hero" of the show, (perfectly fine for Bitcoin to be the villain because they are moving toward centralization with LN) then definitely not.

Hi TanteStefana, thanks so much for checking out our proposal! In answer to your question, Dash will definitely play a huge part of the hero faction of our series, not the villainous Centralized Financial Services (CFS). If our proposal is funded then Dash will be represented as part of "TheTable". This will be an Arthurian-like table who band together to overthrow the totalitarian, one world government represented by the CFS.

Beautiful trailer, but you guys are pretty much unknown around here and are asking for a lot of money. Fortunately, at the levels of money we are talking about here, you can afford the slip up of rushing your first proposal. I would suggest participating in the community for a while and make yourselves known (here, the dash.org forums, the discord channel) then submitting your proposal again in a couple of cycles. I wish you fruitful endeavors whether you choose to resubmit or not.

That's certainly something we should've considered before. We will definitely be posting personal introductions from team members as we want to be involved in the community, we are even planning on showing behind the scenes clips as we move into production, to keep the community updated with all the progress and to give access to sneak peeks and all kinds of cool things. We definitely want to be engaged in this community that's for sure. Thanks again for the great advice and we will definitely try to address any issues we might have overlooked. Please feel free to point out any things we might have missed

My biggest objection to this proposal is that you have not secured a deal with Netflix, Amazon or some other prominent media outlet to air this program. What if the series doesn't get picked up? This project is way too iffy for the kind of money your are asking for.

Thanks for your comment DashRiprock, as the co-creator/director of HardFork, one of the aspects I’m most excited about in terms of this project--and integrated into its very DNA from the jump--is the fact that we want to use a decentralized model to produce the show by fundraising through sponsorship and private equity in order to keep creative control in the hands of the production team and the community we’re building around the series. I regularly make the rounds in Los Angeles with all the projects I’m developing, I sold my last feature, Art Machine, to Netflix and had a good experience there. Our star, and one of the writers on the series, Christopher James Baker, stars in Netflix’s Ozark (check it out, if you haven’t already, it’s great!) Naomi Brockwell sold her last film to Lionsgate, Elia and Erinn are both in major network/streaming series. We’re putting together a very comprehensive package that includes the trailer, a series bible detailing the full ark of the show, episode scripts, and a comprehensive deck. We are packaging the show with talent and crew that will crossover, moving the needle at the Hollywood studio level, while also maintaining a firm foothold in the blockchain community. By coming in with leverage—this comprehensive package and a good deal of the funding in place—our aim is to avoid the series languishing in “development hell” at a studio for months to years and ultimately missing this crucially pivotal moment for Dash and the blockchain community. With the plethora of modern distribution options, these days good content gets seen and we are hard at work making sure that HardFork is both of super high quality and that we’re building a strong fanbase around it, so that that it’s undeniable. Thanks again for your feedback. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

it would be great to be part of a cult movie or series like tron or Hackers, but it could also waste money like the episode start of Tribute of Panem after mockingjay. A represented in a minimum of 5 episodes within the HardFork Season 1 is a lot Dash. I´m voting with no. Maybe i would change my mind if Dashracer is part of it. (joke)

First of all thanks a lot for you input, the reason we're offering 5 episode is the series is going to be 6-8 episodes max, like True Detective, Black Mirror, or Stranger Things for example. We think that high octane, engaging series have the effect to resonate more with the audience. Thanks again.

Could you give us some details on the total cost of producing the show? How much of the budget are we subsidizing with this $300,000

Thanks for your question, ctafti! In terms of the overall budget for the series, we’re aiming to raise 1.3 - 1.6 million USD per episode, for 6-8 episodes.

In addition to our comprehensive sponsorship proposals we are also putting forward an equity participation package to interested parties. We raised some initial seed money by posting on Steemit.com, enough to film the trailer and get the ball rolling. We have many connections to potential investment and feel confident that we will meet our fundraising goal. We aim to raise enough money to produce the first season ourselves and sell it to an entity like Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, etc. I licensed my feature film Art Machine to Netflix and with Christopher James Baker’s involvement, the rest of our cast, crew, and the level of writing and production values we feel strongly that we’ll secure an excellent distribution deal.

    Hi Schnuppdog,
HardFork writer, director Doug Karr here, the team and I are super excited to have our proposal up on Dash Central!
By way of telling you who we are I made a little video to introduce myself that you can check out here:

    https://youtu.be/URw9MeTXLLs

We totally hear your initial feedback that we jumped a couple steps in posting our proposal. The reason we acted swiftly is simply because time is of the essence with our project. As you know, the crypto world changes rapidly and this makes it pivotal that we get started on production of the HardFork Series as soon as possible. We appreciate your comments and looking forward to continuing the conversation!

I don't wanna be a complete asshole (I'm fine with my current percentage) but the teaser trailer looks trashy to me. It has this low budget amateurish feel to it.
The CGI can't fool me when I see empty rooms (no money for props?), poor makeup and the few props that you do have looking low value.
I get that not every filmmaker has millions of dollars at their disposal, but even the story doesn't really thrill me, which could've redeemed the whole thing.

Perhaps we're just accustomed to the Hollywood budget movies where you feel the production value through the entire thing, but still: We're well beyond the phase where we have to take the first applicant that comes our way for each job, because there's nobody else. Dash can do better than that, so I say let's wait for a better application.

I totally appreciate where you’re coming from Microchip. The teaser trailer is just an early proof of concept. The entire budget for five days of production was $5000. Despite that we shot on RED cams with movi rigs and did our best to produce 47 VFX shots in a 3 week post production schedule without a penny left for post. In terms of the story, in addition to the trailer we are also hard at work on a series bible and the full season of screenplays for the series. The teaser storyline borrows from various elements of the larger arc, but we were very much aiming to just give a sense of a story and not make it feel like a short film so that we were able to point the lens in all kinds of areas of what we felt we could achieve on such a tight budget. Happy to answer any other questions or concerns you may have. Thanks for your input.
